First time I've completed 100 miles on a moutain bike. Over 12,000 feet of total climbing. Started up hill right out of the gate and then went to single track. I got a flat after aide station #1. Also had chain issues from the very beginning. Other than that it was a great ride, I felt pretty good all the way through. I finished in just under 11 hours which was a lot better than I thought I would do. Amazing views down there and great single track!

Had a great day despite a REALLY nasty crash about 10 miles deep bombing down a steep descent. I thought for sure that I had broken my wrist. The pain from my wrist overshadowed some other injuries I picked up from that crash including a GIANT bump on my head, and some kind of shoulder injury (rotator cough maybe?). despite all that I hopped right back on my bike and kept truck'n along! I knew going in to this race that I was in no kind of shape to actually "race" this distance. 5 hours a week on a spin bike inside just doesn't cut it for preparing for a 100mi MTb race! So my plan for the day was to learn about the distance and how my body would react to it. I also focused on my nutrition regiment. Considering the lack of preparation I was amazed at how great my legs felt! The most pain I felt was from my wrist. The course was challenging but beautiful. There were a lot of gravel roads which were difficult to desend and climb. All the single track was awesome though. Wish there would have been more of it! All and all I really enjoyed the experience and I am really looking forward to getting in shape to "race" my next 100 miler!

That race sucked! Bad aid stations, 80 miles of roads covered with loose crushed granite the size of golf balls. And as a bouns add hillbillies pickups on the same narrow roads. I rode the first 65 miles way to hard on my new bike without having the fit dialed in and paid the price. My right knee called it a day at miles 80 just before the last of many giant climbs ( I rode up it any ways after giving my knee a little rest). My total miles for the day was 100 including trying to get back to the car. The only high point for me was the scenery was awesome and Katie finished her first 100 MTb race without training from it. She also finished despite going down hard and injuring her wrist 5 miles into the race. With Katie's wrist injured and with his awesome second place finish last week , Tony moves back into the " franchise" rider slot.
