The Gods must have favored the foolish today! The forecasted rain never showed up, so we had another sunny, 65-degree race. I was the only Savage Hill rider to participate in this race. I guess I'm the only one who races in good weather... :-)

The race started out friendly enough and everyone seemed to be riding more safely than last week. There were only a couple of very futile breakaway attempts, so the field stayed together most of the race. In the last lap, Jeff Hobbs attached immediately after the hill. I got on his wheel, only to be picked off by his teammate. Jeff had a small lead on the pack going into the final series of corners. Figuring that this was as good a chance as any to really see if those Walden turns work at 30mph, so I tried to attack. I pushed the corners as hard as I could. I ended up with a couple of guys on my wheel going into the finishing stretch. As with last week, I just couldn't push anymore gear and two guys got me. I got fourth place and $27 to pay my entry fee and some of my gas money. It sure would have been nice to have some team support on this one...
