I was hoping that my season would turn around with this race! Not so!
I was in contention for the field sprint for 3rd and was sitting about 4th wheel for the uphill big ring finish (a great spot - I thought). At that point I became the pinball in a typical IRS series sprint. I got hit from both sides (luckily at the same time) like I have never been slammed before. I stayed upright but the guy on my right went down and to the best of my knowledge he was the instigator of the whole affair. I must have tangled with someone pretty heavily because I broke a front spoke (in the center) and scratched up some paint. Anyone have any Orbea orange touch up paint?
It was a fast race and I was relegated to sucking wheel all day. MOB Squad and the Indy Hand Center teams were out in full force (about 10 each) and I must say that they have really learned how to race as a team over the winter (they were kind of comical last year). They were constantly attacking and it ended up with 1 of each up the road for the 2 man break.
Another decent race gone bad!
